What does ADAMTS13 stand for?
ADAMTS13 (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with a thrombospondin type 1 motif, member 13)—also known as von Willebrand factor-cleaving protease (VWFCP)—is a zinc-containing metalloprotease enzyme that cleaves von Willebrand factor (vWf), a large protein involved in blood clotting.
What mean TTP?
TTP (thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura): A life-threatening disease involving embolism and thrombosis (plugging) of the small blood vessels in the brain. It is usually caused by inhibition of an enzyme called ADAMTS13 which normally serves to break up a blood protein called Von Willebrand Factor into smaller pieces.
Can TTP be cured?
Can TTP Be Cured? About 80% of patients will survive. The majority of patients will have only one episode of TTP; few will have relapses.
Is ITP and TTP the same?
Are ITP and TTP the same thing? No, ITP and TTP are not the same thing. Both ITP and TTP are bleeding disorders, but they occur for different reasons and may require different treatments.
How does ADAMTS13 cause TTP?
The deficiency of ADAMTS13 leaves unchecked the hyperadhesive vWF unfolded under high shear stress in the microvessels, resulting in the formation of platelet thrombi, which in turn causes TTP.
What is the function of VWF?
Von Willebrand factor (VWF) is a large multimeric glycoprotein that performs two critical functions in primary hemostasis: it acts as a bridging molecule at sites of vascular injury for normal platelet adhesion, and under high shear conditions, it promotes platelet aggregation.
What are the signs and symptoms of TTP?
Symptoms may include any of the following:
- Bleeding into the skin or mucus membranes.
- Confusion.
- Fatigue, weakness.
- Fever.
- Headache.
- Pale skin color or yellowish skin color.
- Shortness of breath.
- Fast heart rate (over 100 beats per minute)
What is TTP material?
TTP is a continuous format Polyester material with a permanent acrylic adhesive designed for high durability label applications. TTP is suitable for thermal transfer printing to create decals, nameplates, banners and logos. TTP labels are available as part of a complete identification system.
Can you live a long life with TTP?
Before we talk about recovery, we must say that some patients with TTP still die. Most of our patients who died never had a chance for effective treatment; patients who have begun plasma exchange treatment have almost always survived.
How long can you live with TTP?
The most striking evidence for the impact of morbidities following recovery from TTP is decreased survival. Among the 77 patients who survived their initial episode of TTP (1995-2017), 16 (21%) have subsequently died, all before their expected age of death (median difference, 22 years; range 4-55 years).
Is ITP a coagulopathy?
Thrombocytopenia is present in both DIC and immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). However, ITP is distinct from DIC in terms of its pathophysiologic mechanism and does not involve coagulation activation or microangiopathic hemolytic anemia.
