I was playing ac2 and came up with my own little theory, that Giovanni knew Petruccio could never be an Assassin (due to illness) and told him all kinds of stories (and about why assassin’s love eagles so much) to entertain him, and that’s why he wanted the feathers (which I always presumed to be eagle feathers).
